Maven Gig Insurance: A Guide to Insurance Coverage, Damage Protection Plans, and How to File a Claim

Insurance Overview

We know how important insurance is for rideshare and delivery drivers, which is why your reservation’s weekly rental/lease rate includes liability coverage up to the state minimum financial responsibility limit. The Maven Gig insurance policy kicks in depending on the commercial platforms you drive for and whether you are on app or off app. If for example you drive for Uber or Lyft and are on-app, Uber and Lyft’s insurance covers those miles. Our insurance applies when driving for personal use, or while driving for a commercial platform without coverage.

In addition to the basic liability insurance included with your reservation, you have the option to select a Damage Protection Plan to reduce or remove the damage fee in the event of damage to the Maven Gig car. The plans are optional, but in addition to peace of mind knowing you are protected from damage to your Maven vehicle, the plans help accelerate the process of getting into another car. Time is money, so opting for the full damage plan is the best way to cause as little disruption to your daily grind as possible.

Get to Know Your Maven Gig Insurance

Every member who complies with the Maven Gig rental/lease agreement found here is provided liability coverage up to the state’s minimum financial responsibility limit. Liability insurance helps protect you from the costs of others’ property damage and bodily injuries if you’re found at fault in an accident. It does not cover damage to your Maven vehicle.  You can be held financially responsible for theft of or damage to the Maven vehicle, up to the full cost of the car. As an extra layer of protection, you can add a damage protection plan with each Maven Gig reservation. Plans start at just $4.00/day for partial protection, and $7/day for full protection.

The damage protection plan is not an insurance product, and you have no obligation to purchase a plan to reserve a car.

How does insurance work while on app or off app with Uber and Lyft, or other Rideshare and Delivery Services?

Below is a breakdown of how liability insurance and the damage protection work when you are on or off app with rideshare providers like Uber.

OFF APP

Liability Protection: Maven provides coverage up to the state’s minimum financial responsibility limit.

 

Damage Protection Plan: When purchased these plans can be used to protect you from damage regardless of fault.

Liability Protection: The insurance of the platform you’re driving for is primary. While working on a platform that does not provide insurance, Maven’s insurance remains active.

How do I sign up for a Damage Protection Plan and what’s included in the cost?

Things happen that you can’t predict or avoid. To prevent any extra financial burden in the event of damage to your Maven Gig car, you can choose a damage protection plan in the Maven app. The protection plan applies to all damage to a Maven car, regardless of who’s at fault. You can add a damage protection plan when you make a reservation or pick up your car*, but you are not required to carry damage protection to reserve a car. You can also add or change your protection plan selection when you renew your reservation. You are also not responsible for normal wear and tear. Below is a breakdown of the options available to you when making a reservation in the Maven Gig app:

FULL PROTECTION PLAN ($7.00/day)

You’re not liable for any damage responsibility fee regardless of fault.

PARTIAL PROTECTION PLAN** ($4.00/day)

You will be held liable for up to $1,000 as part of the damage responsibility fee.

NO PROTECTION PLAN

You are responsible for the full cost of damages to the car. 


* If a member makes a change to their protection plan during a reservation, they must have the car inspected by Maven Gig before the plan goes in affect.
**Partial protection plans only available in states where permissible.

How to File an Insurance Claim for an Accident

Accidents happen, and your safety is our priority. Use this step-by-step guide to handle your accident and to file a claim.

Step 1:  Navigate your car to a safe area if possible, shift into park, turn off your engine, and turn on your hazards to warn other drivers to avoid your car. If needed use the red OnStar “SOS” button to request emergency services.

Step 2: Request a police officer be called to create a written report of the incident.

Step 3: Avoid admitting fault or blaming others.

Step 4: Take photos and videos, especially license plate numbers and specific damage to the vehicles. Collect driver and passenger names, insurance information, makes and models of vehicles, contact information of eyewitnesses, the location of the accident, and the names and badges of reporting police officers.

Step 5: Call a Maven agent at 1-800-572-2936. All incidents need to be reported to this number. In addition to reporting the incident to Maven, some TNC/delivery platforms may require you to file a claim with them as well.

Q: Will my personal auto insurance cover my damage fee?
A: When driving the Maven Gig car, your personal insurance might cover you. Your credit card might cover you, too. Read your policy or contact your insurance agent to get the full details of how your personal automobile insurance or credit card provider would respond.

Q: Will Maven Gig put me in a new car if I’ve been involved in an accident?
A: If you’ve purchased the Full Protection Plan and your account is in good standing, you can make a new reservation on a car. However, we cannot guarantee when a new car will be available. If you’ve purchased the Partial Protection Plan or opted out of the protection plan, you must pay your damage responsibility fee before you are eligible to make a new reservation on a car.
